Even though the newly released Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 officially supports iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.0 only, but MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that iOS 4.2 Beta can also be jailbroken (on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only) using this release of Redsn0w but don’t expect everything to work flawlessly.
iH8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will drop on Wednesday, 23rd September 2010. For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze for Windows works like PwnageTool for Mac which helps you in creating custom firmware files so that you can upgrade to new firmware without upgrading your baseband. This allows you to use the existing version of Ultrasn0w for unlocking the phone so that you can use it with any carrier you like.
A new tweak which goes by the name of “Covert” is now available on Cydia which brings private browsing to Mobile Safari browser on iPhone and iPod touch. When active, this feature will mask your browsing trail from anyone who might later use your phone to check out browser’s history, cookies and other data.
PwnageTool Bundle for iOS 4.2 Beta on iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) has been released. You can use this bundle to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.2 while preserving your older baseband so that you can unlock it “later” (more on this below) using Ultrasn0w. The best thing about this bundle is that it supports hacktivation, but unfortunately, Cydia is currently not compatible with iOS 4.2. You will have to use SSH (OpenSSH) to copy or install any files manually on your iPhone.
iOS 4.2 was released earlier today. Just like iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.0.2, the new iOS 4.2 at the moment is not jailbreakable. It also contains new baseband for all iOS devices which currently makes it impossible to unlock using existing version of Ultrasn0w. So if you rely on a jailbreak and unlock, stay away from this new firmware until new jailbreak and unlock tools are available for download.
Apple has just seeded the first Beta of iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. This beta build, like any other iOS beta is meant for developers only. Only members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access these bits of by signing into Apple Developer Connection.
In a few hours from now, Microsoft will officially unveil Internet Explorer 9 Beta to the world. Folks at Fast Company have already got their hands on Microsoft’s latest attempt to reinvent the browser. If the screenshots posted below are anything to go by, boy or boy this looks awesome!
The newly released iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS, and 3G features new baseband which is currently not unlockable using the current version of ultrasn0w. But if you upgrade (while preserving baseband) and then jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 using PwnageTool method posted here, you can unlock your phone (iPhone 3GS) using the existing version of ultrasn0w. Also, if you upgrade your iPhone 4 (while preserving baseband) on iOS 4.1 using the method posted here, you will be able to unlock your phone (iPhone 4) as soon as the new jailbreak tool is available for download.
