This time, the new handset will be pitting its wits against two devices which have been presented with the mammoth task of rejuvenating the fortunes of two once-mighty brands in the mobile industry. Both Nokia and BlackBerry have enjoyed vast successes over the past decade, but as both have struggled in the wake of iOS and Android, the Nokia Lumia 920 on Windows Phone 8, and the BlackBerry Z10 on the BB10 OS, have some real ground to make up if they are to compete with the Galaxy S4. Here, we compare them with yet another like-for-like table of the vital specifications.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 launch ceremony finally took place a few hours ago in New York City, and among the myriad dramatics and orchestral ensemble, the company’s latest flagship device was revealed in the presence of a packed crowd. Samsung has, after much wait, finally announced its Galaxy S4 handset, and if the HTC One lit the blue touch-paper for an old-fashioned slog in the battle for Android supremacy, the Korean giant has responded in its usual efficient fashion. Most of the features we suspected prior to the announcement eventually materialized, including the 1080p 5-inch display, 2GB of RAM and quad-core processor, but there were also one or two surprises in store. Former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal reflects fondly on a time when he used to pester former Apple CEO Steve Jobs to allow him an early look at the iPhone. In this Digital Age, we're certainly using paper a great deal less than we used to. Whether reading, writing or corresponding, the ease in which one can send an e-mail, purchase and read a new book or create a document is something often taken for granted, but as one French company has correctly pointed out, there are still plenty of uses for paper in our day-to-day lives. Redmond-based Microsoft may only recently have pushed out Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 to the end user, but it has long since been the public knowledge that the company is looking at moving towards more regular release cycles. The days of completely revamped offerings arriving every five years or so will soon be a thing of the past, and incremental, annual improvements will then ensue. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, then, that the software maker should be working on Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9, and as a recent job posting infers, the company is on the hunt for a few more specialist engineers to add to its team.
In a year which will almost certainly see the introduction of two next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft, it's hard to believe that both may well be outshone by a pair of spectacles. Google Glass is, as we know, a great deal more than just a pair of spectacles though, and having demonstrated on numerous occasions just how far the technology has come along in the past year, the Big G has also confirmed that, although not immediately, the wearable tech will eventually be compatible with traditional prescription lenses.
It's rather strange that, even in this day and age where technologies seem to be advancing at an exponential rate, we still have time to consider something as menial as the choice of wallpaper. Whenever a new version of Windows arrives, for example, much is often made of the design choices of the supplementary backdrop selection, and when it comes to smartphones, similar rules apply. HTC's One offers many great features, and with the aftermarket Sense 5 preloaded atop Android Jelly Bean, there's yet another varied selection of wallpapers on offer. HTC's One may not yet have hit the market, but already, its wallpapers have been pulled and upped to the interwebs, and you can download them right now.
