If you can remember some of those ancient products that entertained us long before the age of the smartphone, you'll no doubt recall the View-Master. An iconic, binocular-like device, you would hold it up against your eyes and scroll through a set of enchanting frames, giving the impression of virtual reality. Times have changed dramatically in the last couple of years, though, with a number of companies dabbling in the field of head-mounted tech, and after carrying the flag for so long with Glass, Google will team up with Mattel while using its innovative Cardboard VR tech to re-create a modern-day View-Master.

Last April, Nike cooled down on its Nike+ FuelBand endeavors in a move that was attributed to Apple's impending smartwatch efforts. But despite rumors of the wearable's demise, the line-up is still on sale, as is the companion app for iOS. Today, said app has been treated to a rather generous update, which not only offers integration with the iOS HealthKit, but also permits users to track data without the need for a FuelBand in the first place.
Along with the incredible growth of the iTunes App Store in terms of general content, the way that payments are gathered by developers has shifted dramatically since third parties were first given the opportunity to supplement the iOS experience. Whereas paid apps and games were sold at a flat rate, at one-dollar increments from $0.99 upwards, today's App Store sees the vast majority of successful titles given away for free. Devs can generate continued revenue by offering certain aspects of a game for purchase after the initial download, but with many consumers having grown frustrated with this system, Apple has launched a new App Store section that points out titles available for a one-off rate.

The Touch ID fingerprint sensor that Apple first introduced with the iPhone 5s back in 2013 was, by some, dismissed as a gimmick. Sure, we'd seen such implementations with business-standard notebooks and such, but the idea of adding one to an iPhone did seem a tad James Bond. As we've seen, though, Touch ID has much to offer, and having enjoyed third-party support software with the iOS 8 update, was also included as a part of last year's iPad refresh. Now, reports indicate that Touch ID will be subject to further improvements in time for the next-generation iPhone, providing a more accurate experience for seamless and secure authentication.
