Apple Working With Verizon To Offer Free News+ To New iPad Buyers [Report]

Apple’s News+ service hasn’t taken the world by storm by any stretch of the imagination but that isn’t stopping Apple from continuing to find new ways to push it. Part of that work will be a new deal with Verizon that will see new iPad buyers also get a free six-month Apple News+ subscription.

Set to be announced later this week according to a 9to5Mac report, the offer will only be available to people who have yet to try Apple News+. Anyone who already took advantage of the standard one-month trial will be OK, although they will only get five months rather than six.

Unusually, it doesn’t appear that there are any other conditions beyond the offer only being available once per Verizon account.

There does not appear to be any conditions on plans or other specs, any iPad activation should be eligible. Verizon will be automatically emailing customers who meet the criteria to let them know about the promotion. After the trial period ends, the subscription will automatically renew at the usual $9.99 per month rate unless canceled. T

We’ve heard repeated stories suggesting that Apple News+ has failed to perform since its arrival more than a year ago. We’ve also heard that news publishers have already started to worry about the lack of subscribers with Apple clearly trying to address that here.

Apple and Verizon are expected to announce the new partnership on Thursday, July 16.
