Apple To Move Straight To iPhone 8 In 2017, Ditching The Traditional “S” Upgrade?

It is being reported that 2017 will likely be a big year for Apple as far as iPhone is concerned. Intense speculation has already started pertaining to the 2016 iPhone 7 as part of an attempt to predict exactly what Apple will reveal later this year, but a new report today by an analyst named Mark Moskowitz appears to be looking beyond the iPhone 7 and 2016 by claiming that Apple’s 2017 iPhone model will forgo the traditional ‘s’ upgrade and move straight to “iPhone 8”.

The possibility for Apple to skip past the iPhone 7s and move straight to the iPhone 8 most definitely exists, along with the potential for that device to be one of the biggest upgrades that we’ve seen in recent times. This year’s iPhone 7 is expected to feature a design that will somewhat be similar to what we already have with iPhone 6/6s since 2014, however today’s report is suggesting that next year’s iPhone 8 could blow that away by introducing a “mega cycle” update to the device. A research note from another prominent Apple analyst had already suggested that Apple is looking to produce next year’s iPhone with an all-glass construction, which as you can tell would seem a bit too much for a mere ‘s’ upgrade.

Moskowitz’s report claims that Apple’s 2017 iPhone will be the first model to officially move across to using OLED display over the current LCD display. There’s also this claim of Apple’s design team, led by Jony Ive, finally doing away with the hardware-based Home button in favor of an aesthetic that features no button whatsoever on the front. That could pave the way for the Touch ID sensor to be embedded directly under the glass shell of the device, possibly utilizing 3D Touch.

Last but not least, the report also claims that 2017 iPhone 8 will come equipped with wireless charging, that unlike the current available solutions, will work from a distance.

Interestingly enough, some of these claims made by Mark Moskowitz fall in line with a number of reports that have previously seen the light of day. If true, that would mean that we can all look forward to a fairly substantial iPhone update next year.

Based on this report, will you be updating to this year’s iPhone 7 which is expected to feature slightly tweaked design with no antenna bands on the back, slimmer body, upgraded internals, dual-lens camera system, Smart Connector, or will you wait for this rumored big update to iPhone in 2017?
