Apple Is Working On New Smart Glasses Technology For 2027 Launch – Report

Apple is reportedly working on a new pair of smart glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban sunglasses, that will launch within the next couple of years.

That’s according to a Mark Gurman report for Bloomberg that suggests a launch before the end of 2027 is in the cards.

However, it isn’t yet clear what the new smart glasses will be capable of and it’s unlikely that they will be the end-game for Apple’s smart glasses plans.

Gurman believes that these new glasses will not support augmented reality technology and will use chips that are based on those that currently power the Apple Watch. The new chips are expected to enter mass production around the end of next year ahead of a 2027 product launch.

The company has made progress on the chip that it’s developing for smart glasses, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The move indicates that Apple is ramping up work on such a device, which would compete with the popular Ray-Ban spectacles offered by Meta Platforms Inc.

The Bloomberg report notes that Apple has removed some components of the Apple Watch chips in an attempt to improve power efficiency, while the design will also be capable of handling multiple camera feeds that will be used by the smart glasses.

This comes as Gurman also reports that Apple is considering adding cameras to its smartwatches and even AirPods.
