iOS 27 Will Allow iPhone Users To Choose Between Different AI Providers

Apple is expected to announce iOS 27 at its WWDC event in June, and a new report suggests that it will allow iPhone owners to choose between Gemini, Claude, and other AI models for AI features.

The Bloomberg report says that Apple will allow so-called “Extensions” to be chosen as part of the iOS 27 revamp.

Test versions currently “allow you to access generative AI capabilities from installed apps on demand, through Apple Intelligence features such as Siri, Writing Tools, Image Playground and more.”

Users will be able to select from multiple third-party AI models for tasks like generating and editing text and images, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The change is slated for iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 this fall, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private.

Users will likely be able to choose which AI Extensions they use by selecting them in their respective app.

For example, Claude’s app could provide the Extension and users will select it via that specific app. If they choose to use Claude, for example, it will then be used to power AI features throughout the iOS 27 experience. We can likely expect the same Extensions support to come to the iPad and Mac, too.

Apple is expected to announce iOS 27 at WWDC next month before making the software available to the public this fall.
