Apple Vision Pro Just Got An M5 And Dual Knit Band Upgrade

Apple has today announced a new, updated version of the Apple Vision Pro with an upgraded M5 chip for even faster performance. The chip is also designed with AI workflows in mind.

The new chip also offers extended battery life, while the refreshed Apple Vision Pro now comes with a Dual Knit Band that should help make for a better, more comfortable fit during long wearing sessions.

On the outside, this Apple Vision Pro looks the same as the outgoing model, but the big change comes inside. The new M5 chip is a notable upgrade, with Apple saying that it offers improvements across the board.

Built using third-generation 3-nanometer technology, M5 on Vision Pro features an advanced 10-core CPU that delivers higher multithreaded performance, resulting in faster experiences throughout the system, including faster load times for apps and widgets and more responsive web browsing. The next-generation 10-core GPU architecture brings support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading, enabling developers to add remarkable detail to lighting, shadows, and reflections in games like Control.

The M5’s 16-core Neural Engine means that AI-powered features will run up to 50% faster compared to the previous Apple Vision Pro. “With the breakthrough performance of M5, the latest Apple Vision Pro delivers faster performance, sharper details throughout the system, and even more battery life, setting a new standard for what’s possible in spatial computing,” Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing said via press release.

For some, the new Dual Knit Band will be the big upgrade, especially if they found the Apple Vision Pro hard to wear previously. The band features upper and lower straps that are 3D-knitted as a single piece, Apple says, creating “a unique dual-rib structure that provides cushioning, breathability, and stretch.”

The new M5 Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 and is now available for preorder. It’ll officially go on sale on Wednesday, October 22.
