13-Inch MacBook Pro And Air With Apple Silicon Coming This Year, 14.1-Inch And 16-Inch Pro Models To Follow Next Year

Apple announced that it was ditching Intel chips in favor of its own silicon during its WWDC event last month. During that announcement it also confirmed that it expects to get its first Mac based on Apple Silicon out as soon as this year – and now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says he knows what they will be.

In a new research note picked up by MacRumors, Kuo reportedly says that a 13-inch MacBook Pro will go into mass production in the final quarter of 2020, while a new MacBook Air will also make its debut in the same quarter. There is also a possibility that it may be pushed to next year, however.

As for next year, Kuo still expects mini-LED 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pro models next year, too. They’ll also come with a new form factor, according to Kuo.

We predict that Apple will launch new MacBook models including the new 13.3-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ equipped with the ‌Apple Silicon‌ in 4Q20, the new ‌MacBook Air‌ equipped with the ‌Apple Silicon‌ in 4Q20 or 1Q21, and new 14- and 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ models equipped with the ‌Apple Silicon‌ and all-new form factor design in late 2Q21 or 3Q21.

While Apple did say that it plans to have Macs with Apple Silicon ready this year, it didn’t say what machines they would be or exactly when they would launch. Many had suggested that the lower-powered MacBook Air might get the nod, but it seems that the 13-inch MacBook Pro will also be joining the party as well.

In the same report Kup also said that he expects MacBook shipments through 2020 to total as many as 17 million units while that could raise to around 20 million next year.
