Uber Launches New ‘Family Profiles’ Feature, Here’s How It Works

Uber isn’t going to stand still, especially in the face of fierce competition and legal challenges around the globe. Thankfully, Uber does seem to be paying attention to some of the biggest requests that come from its users, with family profiles being one of those requests. It seems Uber has been listening, because as of right now, and assuming you live in the right place, Uber Family Profiles are a real thing.

Only available right now to people in Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix, Family Profiles are exactly what they sound like – profiles that include family members. What it means in practice is that a whole family can use Uber via just the one payment source.

The setup and use of Family Profiles is about as simple as these things can get. Each family requires an organizer, and that organizer will also be the one whose payment method gets charged each time a family member takes an Uber ride. Once the organizer has invited members of their family, those invitees simply tap or click the link in their email and that’s all there is to it. The first ride family members take after that point will require them to select the new Family Profile as the payment method, but after that, the profile will become their default option.

Up to ten riders can be part of a Family Profile, while “the cost of the trip will automatically be billed to the Family Profile and the organizer will receive a receipt for every ride.” Uber says that Family Profiles aren’t strictly limited to actual families either, meaning companies could give their employees access to a single Uber account in order to pay for their commute and so on.

Family Profiles may only be available in three locations as of now, but expect it to roll out elsewhere sooner rather than later.
