This Game Lets You Use Your iPhone To Play Wii-Style Bowling On Apple TV

Mobile devices are bundled with sensors nowadays, and while, for the most part, they’re used for adjusting display orientation, checking temperature and so on, they can often be used to enhance the gaming experience. But whereas most developers use the tilt of the accelerometer to replicate real-life movements, one dev has taken things to the next level with a bowling title that essentially turns your iPhone into a Wiimote.

We’ve already seen, with the likes of Dance Party and Motion Tennis, that gaming on iOS needn’t be restricted to sitting down and awkwardly avoiding eye contact with those around you. Bowling Central, like the aforementioned titles, is Apple TV-ready in that you can mirror the experience directly to your TV for a truly lifelike experience, and in actual fact, it’s a lot more accurate and receptive than you may presume.

There’s much fun to be had, since Bowling Central actually forces you to get up off your couch, and there are also health benefits since you’ll be burning off a few extra calories, although Bowling Central does present one or two major potential problems.

1

As you may have seen via the slew of unfortunate, albeit entertaining YouTube clips, using a Wiimote in front of a TV can, quite literally, throw up some issues. If you let the peripheral slip from your hand, then expensive televisions can quickly be written off, and in this instance, there’s also the chance that your beloved, and also expensive iPhone could suffer a fatal blow.

Thus, if you do give Bowling Central a spin, make sure you keep a firm grip on your handset to avoid any damage, and even if you believe you’re careful enough, ensure that the gadgetry within the proximity of your flailing arm is covered by an insurance policy.

The game itself is a great deal of fun to play, and packs some awesome graphics to boot. At the cost of $2.99, it’s not overly expensive, and if you’ve got an Apple TV, you’ll really get the most out of Bowling Central.
