VideoLAN's VLC is a media player used by millions worldwide on a daily basis. Famed for its robust functionality along with its ability to handle anything thrown at it with relative aplomb, VLC spans most of the major platforms, including Windows, OS X, and Android. One place it has never managed to established itself is the App Store, having been acrimoniously pulled by Apple's armed moderation team, but today, and as promised by the team yesterday, VLC for iOS dramatically returns for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. See, we've just learned that VideoLAN is set to bring VLC player for iOS back to the App Store, and as if that wasn't already great news in itself, here's the kicker; it's coming back tomorrow.
VLC Media Player from VideoLAN has long stood out as the media player of choice among consumers. Famed for handling just about any media format you could care to throw at it, it’s certainly the best in the business, and although the VLC Media Player app was tossed from the App Store by Apple, VideoLAN as bounced back, offering an iteration for Google’s Android platform.
VideoLAN, like a lot of companies with popular desktop apps, have yet to make a real impression on mobile devices. Its flagship VLC Media Player is renowned for handling just about any video or audio file thrown at it with relative ease, and is used by hundreds of millions of media-loving computer users worldwide.
VLC is, without a shadow of doubt, one of the most popular media players available. Combining a sleek, simplistic interface with the ability to play seemingly any audio or video file, its underbelly of rich features have seen the application become an essential utility to the masses.
At last it has happened, the popular VLC app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has been removed from the App Store after Apple received the official copyright infringement complain from VLC developers.
VideoLAN’s VLC Media Player is the media player for the desktop. It plays virtually any file format you throw at it and does so with splendid ease. That very same kind of ease came to iOS first in the form Applidium’s VLC Media Player for iPad and the app has now (finally) landed on iPod touch and iPhone.
As amazing, revolutionary and magical the iPad may be, the fact remains that it lacks quite clearly in the video playback department. It only supports H.264, .mp4 and .mov video formats. Pretty limited, if you ask me. The tedious process of having to convert video files in iTunes before moving it to the iPad is, well, rather tedious.
