Good news for iPhone 4 unlockers as we have yet another update, this time from none other than the man who actually works on the Ultrasn0w, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team!
Its been a while since we last heard or read anything on the upcoming iPhone 4 unlock for 3.10.01 and 2.10.04 basebands. MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has already confirmed that unlock for iPhone 4 on newer basebands wont be released until Apple drops iOS 4.3 to public.
The following instructions will help iPhone 4 unlockers to update to iOS 4.2.1 while keeping the old 1.59.00 baseband, jailbreak it untethered with GreenPois0n RC5, and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w.
If you have an iPhone 4 with the older and unlockable 01.59.00 baseband, and you want to upgrade to the latest iOS 4.2.1 while preserving your baseband, we have a solution for you. The iPhone developer and hacker iH8sn0w has just teased a screenshot of Sn0wbreeze 2.2 with a new “Baseband Preservation Mode”. This new mode will enable current iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G users to preserve their baseband while upgrading to iOS 4.2.1 so that they can unlock using existing version of Ultrasn0w.
Earlier today, MuscleNerd confirmed that he has got a “backup” method of making jailbreak untethered on iOS 4.2.1. This new method utilizes iOS 4.2b3 (Beta 3) SHSH blobs which Cydia only recently started saving for all iOS devices.
The iPhone Dev-Team has released the updated version of carrier unlocking tool called Ultrasn0w which can unlock the latest iOS 4.2.1 and 4.1 firmware on iPhone 3GS and 3G on basebands later than 05.13.04. Since iPhone 4 has different baseband OS, It'll take a little while longer for the Dev Team to unlock it on the latest firmware.
A special edition of PwnageTool (version 4.1.3) has been released which can update the baseband of iPhone 3GS & 3G to 06.15.00 so that they can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2 on the latest iOS 4.2.1 or iOS 4.1 firmware. This is important because basebands 05.14.xx and 05.15.xx are currently not unlockable using Ultrasn0w.
