Starbucks and The Pokemon Go creators are officially teaming up in an collaboration to bring an enhanced real-world experience to excitable Trainers who have a passion for catching Pikachu and drinking flavored lattes.

As part of an official collaboration, the two companies have announced that they are teaming up to turn nearly 8,000 physical Starbucks locations into dedicated Gyms and PokéStops for Trainers to battle one another and grab some new equipment whilst enjoying a hot beverage.

When you actually stop to consider the partnership, and you take all of the factors into account, then you start to get an understanding as to why the Pokémon Go team Starbucks would look to put a collaboration like this in place.

What’s the first thing that happens when you have a game that requires gamers to venture outside into the real-world during the winter months? People start to drop off from the game, either by simply not playing for a few months or not going back into the title until the weather starts to get better. This is one route to ensuring that gamers still have somewhere warm and comfortable to play the game.

From Starbucks side, not only does the company get a tie-in with one of the year’s most popular titles, but they also get footfall driven directly to their locations as well as being able to launch a special Pokémon-inspired Frappuccino to commentate the occasion:

Today at 11 a.m. PST, more than 7,800 company-operated Starbucks locations in the U.S. will begin to transform within the game into PokéStops or Gyms, enabling Trainers to play the game while meeting friends, recharge in the Starbucks environment, and enjoy the new Pokémon GO Frappuccino blended beverage. The Pokémon GO Frappuccino blended beverage starts with a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino and blends in raspberry syrup with freeze dried whole blackberries, topped with whipped cream – the perfect treat for any Pokémon Trainer on the go.

The change within the game will start to take place from today, December 8th, at 11am PT, meaning that not only can those in the United States fill up their inventories in the warmth of a Starbucks location, but they can also earn Starbucks points and rewards from purchasing the new Pokémon Go Frappuccino. That sounds like a win-win to us.
