For those of you amongst us who are big Android and Samsung fans but who aren’t willing to part with your hard earned cash on the gigantic Galaxy Note, then it may not be that long a wait until you can get your hands on the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone. The world had pretty much set itself for the fact that Samsung would release the third iteration of the Galaxy S device toward the end of this month but this is no longer the case with the Korean electronics giant making an unexpected U-turn and decided to give the S3 its own launch event later in the year.
We aren’t 100% sure why this decision has been made, but the speculation is that the large gap between the North American and European launch dates did not sit right with Samsung, therefore choosing to delay the launch. The decision means that we will more than likely see a roll out of the eagerly anticipated device on a global scale shortly after the planned launch event.
Although the date has yet to be confirmed, it looks as though lucky consumers in South Africa could get their hands on the Galaxy S III as soon as July of this year thanks to the Cell C and Virgin Mobile networks both confirming that they could be offering the S III through their chain of retail stores by that date.
Details are understandably scarce at the moment, but with the device reportedly launching with a super-high-definition screen as well as a quad-core processor, we are sure that it will be a popular handset no matter where it is launched. Jonathan Newman, spokesperson for Virgin Mobile is quoted as saying “no pricing is available yet but it is likely to come in where the Samsung Galaxy S II was priced at launch” which should put it at an affordable level for those SA residents looking to upgrade or purchase from new.
A third South African carrier known as MTN has also jumped onto the confirmation band wagon by saying they will also offer the new S III in their mobile range, which comes after they had snubbed the Samsung Galaxy Nexus device, refusing to offer it to their customers. With the Mobile World Conference happening in a matter of days in Barcelona it remains to be seen whether Samsung will miss the chance to gain some serious traction with the device by unveiling it to an engaged audience, but whatever happens those lucky South African mobile lovers are sure to be in for a treat come July.
