With Apple expected to announce at least two, possibly three new iPhones next week, a new report has detailed the company’s plans for its smartphone lineup well beyond the end of the year.
In a report for Bloomberg, the well-connected Mark Gurman has detailed Apple’s plans for the iPhone 18 series as well as Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Ultra. But he doesn’t stop there, with the reporter getting into details on Apple’s 2027 and 2028 iPhone lineups.
Starting with the September 9 event, Apple looks set to announce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The two phones will debut Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and come in dark red and light blue colors.
Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple is also expected to announce the iPhone Ultra on September 9. It’ll be around the size of a passport when closed and will come in light and dark colors, although specifics aren’t yet known. It’s set to offer Touch ID rather than Face ID and cost over $2,000.
Moving into 2027, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are set to launch in spring of the year. Apple appears set to move the non-Pro iPhone to a spring release moving forward, alongside the “e” budget option.
September 2027 is set to bring the iPhone Air 2 with a faster chip and improved battery life. The updated model is also expected to gain an ultrawide camera in addition to the current wide camera.
Alongside the iPhone Air 2, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models are set to get a 20th-anniversary refresh with “curved glass around all corners and edges, with thinner bezels.” Gurman believes that the new design “will be the biggest overhaul to what is now the iPhone Pro line since the iPhone X.”
Apple is also thought to have plans to release a new second-gen foldable iPhone in 2027, with Gurman believing that it is already in the testing phase.
Finally, 2028 is expected to see Apple revamp the foldable iPhone with new, larger displays than the previous 2026 and 2027 models.
