Jony Ive Presents Samsung’s Copycat Galaxy S6 Ad [Video]

Samsung has, on more than one occasion, landed itself in hot water for copying the designs of rival Apple, and in the last couple of days, Sammy has been roundly mocked for its new, Apple-esque advertisement. As if the laughing and pointing at Sammy’s copycat nature wasn’t enough, one clip mocks the Korean company further by introducing the Galaxy S6 Edge using voice-over work from none other than Apple’s hardware and software design lead Jony Ive, and the end result is rather amusing to say the least.

Ive, who is seen as the most influential person within Apple beneath CEO Tim Cook, regularly features on Apple’s introductory clips of new products, waxing poetic of the unique design elements in that unmistakably English accent. For comedic effect, the folks at German Apple blog GIGA.de have overlaid Ive’s voice with a cinematic clip of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and it’s hard not to rouse a cheap laugh at the clip that they’ve pieced together.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge indicate a significant change of direction from Samsung, which has long prided itself on offering removable battery, upgradeable storage, and other power user-friendly features. However, the company was trounced last year by Apple and its enlarged iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, and needed to break from tradition. Early adopters of Samsung’s latest flagship handsets seem convinced that the S6 line is the very best to date, but while this may well be true, there’s no question that the Tizen maker still watches its Cupertino-based competitor very closely indeed.

Humor aside, it’ll be intriguing to gauge the implications of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on the wider smartphone market his year. Sammy has certainly thrown down the gauntlet to Apple early on, and with its compatriot LG also having introduced a worthy device in the G4, things are shaping up very nicely indeed.

Still, what may occur in the future is yet to be decided, and in the meantime, check out the clip below to hear Jony Ive saying really nice things about the Galaxy S6 Edge. What he actually thinks of the device probably wouldn’t be printable, but if Ive did ever defect to Samsung, this kind of clip would quickly become the norm:
