iPhone X, 6s, SE Discontinued, iPhone 7, 8 Get Price Cut

As we celebrate the release of iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR, it’s important to pay respects to the devices that have found themselves cast into oblivion. With the 2018 iPhone range now official, Apple has also discontinued iPhone X, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and, of course, the 4-inch iPhone SE, while reducing the price of the iPhone 7, 8, and 8 Plus.

As we welcome in the new, we, unfortunately, must also usher out the old for a variety of reasons including production constraints and to avoid competition or confusion within the company’s product line.

With the announcement of iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR, it means that Apple no longer needs most of the earlier models taking up capacity in the supply chain, and, as such, has discontinued the aforementioned models with immediate effect. That strategy means that Apple will no longer be distributing those models and that consumers will need to look to the new models, or past year’s iPhone 7, 8, and 8 Plus, if they want to be at the top of the device food chain.

It makes perfect sense that Apple would want to remove these devices from its lineup. Apple’s manufacturing partners only have a limited amount of capacity when it comes to rolling off devices from the production line.

Introducing the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR immediately puts additional stress and demand on that production process, which, in all honesty, will be under intense pressure to produce the yields necessary to meet demand as we enter into the final shopping quarter of the year. Continuing to develop and release iPhone X, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE would simply put that supply chain under a stress it couldn’t cope with.

And, of course, Apple will also want consumers to invest in new hardware and those with existing iPhones to upgrade via their carrier to one of the new devices. With this discontinuation, it leaves Apple offering iPhone 7 and 7 Plus at reduced prices of $449 and $569, while the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will now be worth $599 and $699 respectively, alongside the newly announced iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR in its range via its website and through official Apple resellers.

Plenty to choose from and plenty of variation with a good spread of prices to cater to those who want to save money as well as those who are happy to pay for the top-end experience.
