iPhone Users In EU Get Default Navigation App Option

Apple is finally adding a much-wanted feature to iPhones, but there’s a catch; it’s only for EU users.

With the upcoming iOS 18.4 update, users in the European Union will be able to set a default navigation app other than Apple Maps.

This means you can choose Google Maps, Waze, or another app as your go-to for directions. The new setting can be found in Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Navigation.

This change isn’t just Apple being generous, but it’s a response to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which requires tech giants to offer more choices to consumers.

Meanwhile, users outside the EU, including those in the U.S., aren’t getting this new navigation option for now. However, Apple has thrown in a small default app tweak for them too: the ability to set a preferred translation app. So, if you prefer Google Translate over Apple’s own translation app, you can now make that switch on iOS 18.4.

As for when this update is rolling out, iOS 18.4 is currently in beta testing, and Apple says it will be available to everyone by early April.

It’s a great step forward for customization, but hopefully, Apple expands the navigation app setting beyond the EU soon.
