Google Pixel 3a, 3a XL Users Experiencing Random Shutdowns

It seems impossible for any phone maker to launch a device without there being at least some teething problems. The Google Pixel 3a may not have been able to buck the trend after reports started to appear that a number of handsets are powering down of their own accord.

So far there doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason for the shutdowns and they’re happening at seemingly random intervals, but fact they’re happening at all will be a concern.

While it’s far from confirmed at this point however, some people on Reddit have been able to stabilize their phones by turning off WiFi.

No, it’s not ideal. But it’s better than nothing.

“Whenever I connect to my work wifi and let the phone sit for ~10 minutes it will require a reboot. It will do the normal lock and then after some time just shutdown, requiring me to hold the power button for ~30 seconds to restart it. For the most part when I’m connected to my home wifi it will not duplicate this although it has crashed once or twice now at home in the 5 days I have had it. Leaving the phone with wifi off seems to prevent the crashing all together.”

It’s unfortunately not unusual for the Pixel lineup to prove troublesome soon after launch. Previous releases have had problems with displays while others have had more software-oriented problems to deal with.

Those have generally been rectified eventually though, and owners of troublesome Pixel 3a handsets will doubtless be hoping that whatever is wrong with their handsets is software, rather than hardware-related.
