Google Glass Gets Foursquare, OpenTable, TripIt, OVGuide Apps

Even with Google Glass suffering something of a PR crisis over the last few months, there’s little doubt that the technology is still some of the coolest around. While we have to admit to not being sure where the idea of wearable technology will take us in the coming years, Google should be given credit for being at the forefront of what is possible today.

As of today, three new Glassware apps are available for those walking around wearing their technology on their head, with TripIt, Foursquare and OpenTable now available for the device. Google took to its Google+ page to make the announcement, with the inevitable yearly vacations people are taking being at the center of the newly released apps.

Some of the most exciting experiences that our Explorers have shared with us are from their travels with Glass. Glass has become a favorite travel companion because it helps you enjoy your vacation without getting lost in your technology, and now we have new Glassware that will continue to help you discover and explore with ease.

The new apps will allow people to check-in when they visit new places, find restaurants to eat at and check their airport gates right from Glass without ever needing to pull out their smartphone. It’s having real, tangible use cases like this that will hopefully see personal, wearable technology take off in the future, with the benefits of not having to keep pulling out a smartphone something that most people cannot deny. All we need now is for the Glasshole stigma to die down and for the units themselves to become more affordable.

If you do own Glass, then you can head on over to MyGlass to install the apps today, along with favorites like Google Now and Word Lens, both of which could potentially be hugely useful when travelling abroad.

Those who don’t yet own Glass and live in the United States can head on over to google.com/glass to find out more about getting in on the action. Just make sure you’ve got that credit card handy.

Update: A fourth app has also made its way onto Glass, which is called OVGuide, and is not travel related like the ones mentioned above, but it gives users the ability to share videos, trailers etc. to their Glass timeline. If video is your thing, then you should definitely check it out.
