Siri has been the main talking point, with many Apple devotees lauding the system-wide voice activation as a game-changing component in the ongoing smartphone innovation war.

Before the launch, and indeed Siri, though, the main interest focused around the Notification Center, in which the Cupertino-based company finally detached from the rather awful system (if you could call it that), which left iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users with a barrage of unsightly badges and a random, almost unmanageable continuation of pop-up notifications.

Notification Center made everything a little more organized, elegant, and, well, smart. Based around the MobileNotifier jailbreak tweak and created by developer Peter Hajas, it acts like a secretary - keeping all SMS, iMessage, e-mail and IM notifications in one, easy-to-navigate place.

That same notification system has now been (almost) replicated for OS X, so Mac users can also enjoy the experience. I say almost because, well, it isn't exactly the perfect fit, but nonetheless, it looks rather good, and executes that same cube animation you see when you get a notification on your iDevice.

It comes from SkyJohn over at Macthemes, and is a freebie, but as we've said, not a completely seamless experience. Still, it's fun, and will make the notification process a little more interesting for those of you on a Mac.

It requires Growl, which at $1.99, will undoubtedly be a deal-breaker for some. If you don't fancy forking out for it, you can use the older version, which is indeed free, and linked to at the bottom of this post. Please note, though, that due to Mac App Store changes set to be put into place in early 2012, the free version will NOT work with sandboxed apps from the Mac App Store.

Apple’s latest and inarguably greatest mobile operating system to date has been well documented in the tech world in the month since its rather belated release.
