Facebook Messenger App For Apple Watch Released, iPad App Adds iOS 9 Multitasking Support

Finally. Facebook has released a native watchOS 2 compatible Facebook Messenger app for the Apple Watch. This is Facebook’s first full featured app for the Apple Watch.

At its media event on September 9th last month, Apple showed off the Facebook Messenger app for Apple Watch for the first time, confirming its arrival on watchOS 2. Today the wait is over as the app is now available to download from the App Store.

With Facebook Messenger for Apple Watch, you can now send and receive voice clips, Likes, stickers and a lot more. You can of course reply to incoming notifications too not only from the Watch, but also inline from iOS banner notifications as well, thanks to iOS 9’s Quick Reply support for third-party apps.

Apart from the dedicated app for Apple Watch, Facebook Messenger on iOS now supports iOS 9 Spotlight search on both iPhone and iPad, as well as iPad specific multitasking features in iOS 9, that is Split View and Slide Over.

The addition of Spotlight search integration means you can now search for your Facebook contacts and conversations directly from the system-wide search in iOS without having to launch the app.

To download and install Facebook Messenger app on your Apple Watch, make sure you first install Facebook Messenger for iOS on your iPhone, then head to Watch app > My Watch > Messenger > and turn the toggle on for Show App on Apple Watch.
