PlayBox HD Re-Released As CinemaBox For iOS And Android, Works Without Jailbreak

The movie streaming market is an extremely interesting space to be involved in. There are immediately recognizable brands like Netflix and Hulu who go through the laborious process of negotiating deals with content providers and offering their services for a monthly subscription. Then there are services like CinemaBox – formerly known as PlayBox HD – who forgo all of the pleasantries and legalities to simply offer a free streaming experience on iOS and Android devices. After initially launching as PlayBox HD offering movie streaming across multiple genres and categories, the service has now relaunched for iOS and Android as CinemaBox.

CinemaBox is essentially a full featured movie streaming service that offers the type of features and functionality that you would expect from a premium platform like Netflix. There’s free access to a multitude of movies and TV shows across various categories and genres. There are frequent updates that not only add additional content, but also new sources of high quality media content. CinemaBox has even had the foresight to introduce a well thought out Kids Mode that makes the whole experience safe and convenient for kids who shouldn’t be accessing adult content of any nature.

In addition to the above, it also features support for seamless download of movies for offline playback when there’s no network coverage or Wi-Fi connection. After all, those with limited cellular data plans don’t want to be hit with a huge bill for watching movies over data. Finally, there’s also support for Google’s Chromecast, Apple’s AirPlay, and even Wi-Fi sharing of content. All of this is available under the rebranded CinemaBox, with the benefit being that it still doesn’t require an iOS device to be jailbroken to go through the process of installation. Obviously, the app hasn’t been submitted to Apple or Google for distribution due to the nature of the “service” it offers.

If you’re interested in checking it out, and in particular seeing how it compares to the more morally intact competition, then you can find out more about it at playboxhd.net (jailbroken users can get it from cydia.dtathemes.com/repo on Cydia). There’s also some ha nay installation hints and tips for non-jailbreak iOS (almost all iOS versions are supported) and Android users at the service’s dedicated help page. Or you can check out the video below to help guide you through the process.
