Designers Conceptualize What A Futuristic Apple iCar Could Look Like [Images]

A job site recently hosted a competition to allow designers to shift away from modern technology and focus on designing something that has no real basis in reality yet; the rumoured Apple iCar.

The competition benefitted from a total of 193 submissions from designers around the world looking to share their vision of how you could apply Apple design aesthetics to a functional vehicle. Some of the submissions were truly beautiful visually, and were actually believable as a potential real-world vehicle. On the other hand, some were truly out there and represented an opportunity for the designer to go way overboard with what could be passed off aesthetically as a viable, saleable vehicle.

The ultimate winner of the competition was a submission by Aristomenis Tsirbas, who produced a iCar concept focusing on flat aesthetics that Apple is currently known for. The stunning vehicle has elegant smooth curves, sliding doors and even makes use of high resolution LED displays to function as the main lighting of the semi-autonomous vehicle:

This concept explores a semi-autonomous electric car in the minimalist tradition of Apple design. It features external high resolution LED screens front and back for user selected headlight/taillight designs.

Tsirbas picked up a $1,500 prize for receiving the most likes on the competition page.

It has been rumored for a while that Apple is working on its very own self-driving electric vehicle. And to add fuel to the fire, vehicles kitted out with multiple cameras have been spotted roaming the streets in the United States that are registered under Apple’s name. It’s being said that Apple is planning to take Tesla head-on with its very own vehicle.
