Yesterday, Apple TV added several new services to its roster, including the Disney Channel, VEVO and the Smithsonian Channel, among a plethora of others. Continuing in that vein, sports fans today get their fill with the news that WatchESPN's content - which was a part of Apple TV 5.3 update - has been expanded once more, brining both ESPNews and ESPN Deportes to the fore. With a wide selection of ESPN services already available through Apple TV even before this update, the Apple set-top is really growing in its appeal to the sports lovers, and with both ESPNews and ESPN Deportes also hitting the WatchESPN app for iOS, those on the iPhone and iPad can also join in the fun.
In the middle of all the current rumors, conjecture and speculation surrounding Apple hardware, it is perhaps the future of the company's so-called hobby project that is managing to capture most of the immediate attention. The little black box has never been one of Apple's highest revenue generating creations, but has been consistently improving on its sales figures, numbers that are only set to continue to rise amid speculation of a new smaller model being introduced and the potential of additional apps being introduced during the year.
Apple rolled out yet another update to the Apple TV firmware. Many have asked if you could jailbreak the Apple device with the new 4.4.3 update. The short answer is yes. The long answer is that while you can jailbreak it, some of the optional apps used with a jailbroken Apple TV won’t work. The movie server, Plex, as well as Rowmote are not supported yet.
Many of the set-top boxes of today are very versatile, allowing owners to add applications and games at their own leisure. Apple TV 2G however, doesn't allow this, strange given the scale of its much celebrated App Store, with hundreds of thousands of downloadable apps and games.
Brandon Holland has come up with a VNC Server plugin for the second-gen Apple TV which will allow you to remotely access your Apple TV from any VNC client, running on your PC or Mac.
The developer behind NitoTV app for jailbroken 2nd-gen Apple TV has released an unofficial PwnageTool bundle which can jailbreak Apple TV 2G on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware with the existing version of PwnageTool. This jailbreak however is limited to tethered-boot only for now.
The popular media center client for Mac OS X and iOS devices has been successfully ported to the new Apple TV 2G ! So for those of you who have a Plex server running in your home, you can now “technically” stream media from Plex server on to your jailbroken 2nd-generation Apple TV.
