Apple Releases MagSafe Duo Firmware Update

Apple has released a new MagSafe Duo firmware update, the charger that is built for powering an iPhone via MagSafe and an Apple Watch simultaneously.

The charger is predominantly designed to be used while on the go and can fold closed when not in use.

The new firmware update sees the version number jump from 186.0.0.0 to 256.1067.0. However there is no information on what the update actually does.

It also isn’t known how to update the MagSafe Duo’s firmware. However, the update will be handled automatically and simply needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device for it to happen.

The MagSafe Duo was released in 2020 as part of the iPhone 12 announcement as a wireless charging pad to charge the iPhone and Apple Watch, it’s thought that this is the first time that it has received any kind of software update. While the charger isn’t great at powering an Apple Watch Ultra thanks to its size and bulk. However, it’s possible to make it work  by removing the watch’s band in order to charge it.

With no release notes telling us what the update does, nor any way to force the update or indeed prevent it, every MagSafe Duo charger owner will receive the new software whether they want to or not.
