Looking to save a quick buck on a very cool app? Well thanks to Apple’s App of the Week initiative, you can save a whole three bucks on a very enjoyable, retro title. Not only is it free for a limited time, but it’s also the very first occasion that said app has shaken off its price tag entirely, and below, we’ve got full details along with that all-important download link.

8bit Doves, as you can probably tell from the name, is a throwback in every sense of the word, sporting old-school graphics that will have 80s and 90s gamers well and truly hooked. Not only are the visuals charmingly simplistic, but the game is too, featuring only two buttons which you’ll need to utilize smartly in order to navigate yourself through a world of virtual reality.

The plot: you must help a bunch of doves to escape from your prison. It does sound rather peculiar, but once you get going, you’ll find it very difficult to put down. Upon downloading, you’re treated to three different level packs, and whether you’re a GameBoy refugee or not, you’ll definitely have fun trying to beat what is a surprisingly tricky affair.

The pixel art is the real clincher here, though. Many have tried, and largely failed, to recapture the magic of games from a past generation on today’s gadgets, but 8bit Doves is a prime example of a title that can still rouse a degree of nostalgia.
