Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak To Get Wax Statue At Madame Tussauds

If you’re into walking around museums and visitor attractions that are dedicated to life-sized wax models of prominent individuals from history – as well as modern times – then the chances are you would have paid attention to Madame Tussauds announcement last month. The world famous wax museum asked the American public to vote on which technology icon they would like to see immortalized in wax and displayed in its San Francisco museum. The results are in, and it looks like America wants to see the iconic co-founder of Apple Steve “Woz” Wozniak turned into a work of art.

The initial surgery from Madame Tussauds asked the public to choose one technology icon from a pre-arranged shortlist of ten. The competition was actually very stiff with some of the most brilliant minds in the technology sector today in the running. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was in the running, as was George Lucas of Lucasfilm. Prominent female tech leaders such as Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, Marissa Mayer of Yahoo and Jane Metcalfe of Wired Magazine fame were also featured in the Madame Tussauds shortlist.

Still, it looks as though the American public wants nothing more than to see a life-sized wax version of Steve Wozniak adorning the floor space of the museum in San Francisco. And we can’t say we are in particular unhappy about that. We’ve always thought that one “Woz” just wasn’t enough. The newly created wax Woz will be in good company when it joins the existing lineup in the San Francisco location in two or three months’ time. Madame Tussauds in the Bay Area already has fantastic wax works of the late Steve Jobs as well as founder of Facebook and tech billionaire Mark Zuckerberg.

The process of building a life-like wax work of the legend himself will take approximately three months to complete. Sculptors will initially require The Woz to sit still for a three hour session while they take 250 individual measurements of his face and body to ensure that the model is as close to reality as possible. Of course, Wozniak is as excited about the announcement as he is about everything:

I am incredibly excited to be inducted into the Madame Tussauds family. I remember visiting the London Museum as a kid, and how cool it was to see Mark Knopfler’s figure in wax. I can’t wait to see my figure next to Jobs – it’ll be just like old times.

Just like old times indeed. Well worth a visit to San Francisco just to see the dynamic duo back together.
