The news comes from 9to5Mac – a blog dedicated to covering all things Apple – in the form of a short post in which they discuss the where and the when of Apple’s shopping event.

The special one-day Apple shopping event will take place on January 6th in celebration of the Lunar New Year* – the Year of the Dragon – in select countries: China/Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and the Philippines.

From 9to5Mac:

Following up on Lucky Bags which were handed out to Japanese Apple customers this weekend, Apple is also celebrating the Lunar New Year with a one day Apple shopping event on Friday January 6th in China/Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Apple shopping events always feature small discounts, so don’t expect this one to be any different. While other manufacturers lower prices by 20-30% on special shopping events; Apple products don’t get more than 10% off.  These discounts are often so small that it is, mostly, not even worth waiting for these events.

While we don’t have the official prices yet, if we take a look back at history, we expect to see the same $41-$61 discounts on the iPad, $21-$41 discounts on the iPod touch, and $101 discounts on the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac series of products as on Black Friday. Besides this, accessories like iPod/iPhone/iPad cases, headphones, battery packs, wristbands for iPod nano, chargers and Office for Mac are expected to see lowered prices.

We will, of course, inform you when Apple releases the discounted prices and when the deals go live. Until then, you can check out the link embedded below for deciding on a gift.

If you wish to avail the discounts, you can visit the online or a local retail Apple Store on Friday, January 6th.

*For the uninitiated, the Lunar New Year will take place on January 23rd. It is the Year of the Dragon (Water) this time. The Lunar New Year is considered as the most important holiday of the year in China and other Eastern countries such asMalaysia, Thailand, Singapore etc. where there is significant Chinese population.
