Apple AirTag 2 In The Works With Vision Pro Support

Apple is said to be working on an updated version of the AirTag item tracker, with the new model possibly arriving with a secret power.

That secret power, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says, would be deeper integration with the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

Kuo’s report claims that the AirTag 2 will likely go into mass production towards the end of 2024, so there is still a long time before the upgraded item tracker is likely to ship.

However, when it does we can apparently expect it to closely integrate with Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Kuo says that he expects spacial computing to be part of Apple’s plans, with Vision Pro set to be core to the integration with other devices — AirTag 2 included.

The Vision Pro headset was announced during the WWDC event on June 5 but is not set to go on sale for some time. Apple had suggested that launch at some point in early 2024 is in the cards, but it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that could change. Apple’s vague release window does also give it plenty of wiggle room, too.

As for the updated AirTags, little is known about their form factor or capabilities beyond the integration with Vision Pro. It’s still very early days for these AirTag 2 rumors however, so we can probably expect to learn more over the coming months.
