Apple CarPlay users have a new weather app to use in their cars following the release of the Storm Radar app from The Weather Channel.
This release comes alongside the release of a new overall update to the Storm Radar app for iPhone and iPad. The addition of CarPlay support is notable because weather apps with support for in-car use are still relatively rare.

The Storm Radar CarPlay experience includes a map of your location as well as the ability to toggle between a satellite view and the default map background. Data layers that can be found include radar, rain, and more, 9to5Mac notes.
This being a CarPlay app, its real focus is showing drivers the weather conditions both where they are now and the location that they are driving to.
Storm Radar shows the current ETA and weather conditions at the destination so drivers can plan for the weather that they are driving into.

The Weather Channel also notes that the app includes “automatic rerouting and weather alerts along your route that refresh as you drive.” The newly updated app also includes new Home Screen widgets and a refreshed Apple Watch app. It’s available for download from the App Store now and is a free download with in-app purchases.
