4-inch iPhone 6c To Be Released Alongside iPhone 6s, 6s Plus

Just when we thought a smaller 4-inch iPhone from Apple was almost out of the question, a new report seems to be suggesting otherwise. Read on for more information on the supposed coming of the 4-inch iPhone and the next generation of its larger siblings.

We know that the successor to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be revealed in September of this year, and both devices will be carrying the ‘s’ moniker, signifying an evolutionary change. And while the report – which comes in from DigiTimes – does mention the arrival of the two devices, there’s also the 4-inch iPhone, which will be called the iPhone 6c. According to the Taiwanese publishing, the new 6s and 6s Plus smartphones will be manufactured by Foxconn, whereas the iPhone 6c has been touted to be manufactured by Wistron. However, another source has suggested at the start of this year that Apple had not placed any orders in its supply chain that could lead to the culmination of an iPhone 6c.

iPhone-6-Plus

Apparently, even if the 4-inch iPhone doesn’t make the cut, Apple will have the iPhone 5s on offer for free on a two year contract. The iPhone 5s is still more than a capable smartphone by modern standards, and if Apple is to plan for an iPhone 6c, the specs and performance of the device come into question in face of the existing available iPhone models.

Tim Cook had announced earlier this year that in all the sales of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, there were more newer iPhone users as compared to existing ones who chose to upgrade from older models. The arrival of the smaller 4-inch iPhone, if true, could be the Mac maker’s attempt at grabbing the share in the smaller screen market segment as well, after the larger iPhones did much better than Apple may have anticipated. It is believed that the smaller iPhone could be targeted towards the female audience who find the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus a bit too large for comfortable use.

No real word on the hardware on the 4-inch iPhone, but it is rumored that the 6s and 6s Plus could be sporting a chunky 2GB of RAM and possibly a Force Touch pressure sensitive display akin to the yet-to-be released Apple Watch.
