Withings Thermo Smart Contactless Thermometer Is Now Available

The Withings Thermo is a device that was originally revealed during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2016), and billed as a new type of contactless thermometer that would facilitate the “most precise temperature” readings possible from a device of this nature.

The Thermo not only uses the latest technology to allow parents to diagnose themselves and their loved ones through extremely accurate, no-hassle temperature readings, but is also FDA approved, and now after being teased a number of months ago, is now officially available for sale.

With a purchase of the new Withings Thermo, you don’t just get use of the thermometer hardware itself, but rather a connected experience that brings temperature reading into the digital age. The actual Thermo hardware ships with Withings’ own revolutionary HotSpot Sensor Technology built-in, meaning that it makes use of 16 infrared sensors to capture an almost instantaneous 4,000 individual readings. The purpose being to capture the hottest temperature at the measured point, which is then relayed back to the illuminated display on the device itself.

Users of the Thermo will also benefit from an instant feedback style system that’s actually part of the hardware. The highest reading of the 4,000 measurements taken is not only instantly displayed on the device, but is also accompanied by a LED indicator that tells the user if the temperature displayed is normal, elevated or extremely high based on the age of the user profile that the reading is taken from.

That information can obviously then lead onto additional diagnosis, such as considering why that person has a fever, and so forth.

As with any smart device, temperature readings are automatically synchronized back to the Thermo accompanying smartphone app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity. That information is stored against a particular user’s profile and is used to provide an analysis in conjunction with that user’s age, fever history and symptoms.

Advanced health advice is also dispensed by the app. One of the greatest benefits of the device is the fact that the user doesn’t need to have direct contact with the skin of the monitored party, meaning it’s truly contactless.

The Thermo is available for purchase now for $99.95 from Apple Store and Withings.com.
