Apple’s upcoming watchOS 27 update may not be packed with flashy new features, but it could still bring an upgrade many users will appreciate: better heart-rate tracking.
According to a new report, watchOS 27 will mainly focus on stability, performance improvements, and smaller refinements instead of major redesigns or headline-grabbing additions.
That said, Apple is reportedly working on improving how the Apple Watch tracks heart rate.
The report doesn’t explain exactly how the improvements will work, but more accurate and consistent readings would be a welcome change. Heart-rate tracking has become one of the Apple Watch’s most important health tools, helping users monitor workouts, recovery, sleep, and overall wellness.
This update could also connect to Apple’s longer-term health plans. For months, reports have pointed to “Project Mulberry,” Apple’s AI-powered health coach designed to offer personalized health guidance and insights. While that feature is still expected to arrive with iOS 27, it may not launch right away and could appear later in the update cycle.
If Apple’s AI health coach is eventually released, stronger heart-rate tracking would make a lot of sense. Better data usually means better insights, and Apple appears to be building the foundation first.
For now, it sounds like watchOS 27 will be less about big surprises and more about making the Apple Watch smarter and more reliable behind the scenes. Sometimes the most useful updates are the ones that quietly make everyday features work better.
