Jony Ive’s Designed Ferrari Luce EV Finally Unveiled

Well the wait is finally over, but it may not be the one we wanted.

After years of wait, Ferrari has finally unveiled its first electric car, the Ferrari Luce, which is designed by former star Apple designer Sir Jony Ive. If you ever thought what Apple’s cancelled car might have looked like, this is it.

The controversial design looks nothing like a Ferrari and more like a gadget coming out of Apple. If this was a car released with an Apple badge, it might have worked. Instead, seeing such a tech-first approach wearing the famous prancing horse feels almost unsettling to longtime Ferrari fans who expect passion, emotion, legacy, aggression, and unmistakable Italian flair rather than futuristic simplicity.

I know design is subjective, but this will be the most polarizing Ferrari ever, at least from exterior design point of view. The interior though, which was already unveiled previously, looks nice and it brings modern touch to Ferrari interiors from the past while also paying homage to them.

As for performance, the figures are good for a Ferrari, but still not great for a EV when you compare it to other EVs from competitors. Ferrari claims the Luce will go from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, hit 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, and continue all the way to 310 km/h. Beneath the shell sits an 830 kW quad-motor setup paired with a massive 122 kWh battery pack (Made entirely in Maranello) and 800V architecture capable of 350 kW charging.

On paper, the engineering is spectacular. Yet that is precisely what makes the Luce feel so controversial: it reads less like a traditional Ferrari and more like a Silicon Valley interpretation of what a Ferrari should be.

Ferrari Luce will go on sale later this year with a price tag of $640,000.
