Want To Buy A Working iPhone 6 Clone Now? That Would Be Just $145 [Photos]

Being the source of most iPhone 6 hardware leaks, there’s a very good case to be made for Chins being the best place to pick up a fake iPhone 6 too. Turns out that’s exactly true after Apple’s next iPhone was once again beaten to market by a knockoff, and one that actually looks pretty good.

The story starts with Reddit user lawrence_uber_alles asking his brother to pick up a fake iPhone 6 for him on a recent visit to Shenzhen, China. With the area being a hotbed of iPhone leaks, it was a fairly simple request as it turned out, with the brother returning with not one, but two fake iPhone 6 handsets in his possession.

The phones themselves may look suspiciously like what we think the real deal will consist of, but it’s the internals that let this particular fake down. While the real iPhone 6 is expected to feature the very latest in Apple’s mobile silicon as well as a stellar screen to display it all on, this fake offers nothing of the sort.

So what does this latest Chinese knockoff look like when it comes to specifications? Well, there’s the 4.7-inch 960×540 resolution screen, quad-core 2.4 GHz CPU and 2GB RAM. Photo-taking is courtesy of a a 12.6 megapixel back camera, and a 2.4 megapixel front-facing camera. All in all it’s a valiant effort, but we’d expect the iPhone 6 to come with Apple’s custom chips that should perform better than these off the shelf components. The phone also runs a custom build of Android 4.2.2 rather than Apple’s own iOS.

If this fake tickles your fancy, we’re told you can pick one up for just $145. Oh, and the price of a plane ticket!

Also of interest in this particular story is that lawrence_uber_alles claims his brother came across a real Apple employee on his travels who, reportedly at least, offered to buy the two handsets in an attempt to avoid Apple’s good name being sullied. It’s at this point we can’t help but think the story’s almost a little too good to be true, but given the photos of the phone in question, we’ll give the benefit of the doubt to both of those involved.
