This iOS App Lets You Watch YouTube Videos Together With Your Friends Online

WeMesh, a free download for iOS devices, allows friends and family to watch the same vidoes simultaneously while commenting on them as well. Sounds like something which should’ve been made before right? We agree.

Watching videos, be they movies or home video of your kids playing, used to be a communal experience with families sat around the television. Nowadays though, we’re all looking at our tablets and smartphones, closed off from the world around us. WeMesh is hoping to try and recapture some of the magic of viewing videos with friends and families while also taking advantage of modern technologies, including those smartphones and tablets.

Available on the App Store and thought up by a couple of doctors in Canada, WeMesh is an app that streams video to multiple devices while keeping it perfectly synchronized. Beyond simply streaming the video though, WeMesh also allows watchers of the video to interact with each other via either text-based chat or voice, all without ever having to leave the comfort of the app.

Right now WeMesh supports YouTube, but the plan is to bring other sources of video into the app such as Dailymotion, Vimeo and Facebook. Eventually, WeMesh also hopes to be able to take videos off of your own device and distribute it to your friends for viewing. The idea is to make it possible for friends and family to watch video and talk to each other while they do it, just as they used to when they were in the same room.

If the name WeMesh rings any bells it’s because it has been available on the App Store for a few months now, but it has only now started to mature into the app that its creators set out for. With new features and added sources of video still to come, WeMesh has the potential to change how we watch and discuss online content together.

WeMesh is a free download and can be found on the App Store today.
