Tesla’s Cybertruck Will Charge Other EVs And Power Your House

Following the news that Tesla has finally taken the wraps off Cybertruck pricing and specifications there is one spec in particular that might be of interest to some. For the first time Tesla is offering bidirectional charging.

The new feature, which has been touted for years, is a first for Tesla and as such makes the Cybertruck capable of things the company’s other EVs simply can’t do.

Those things include charging other electric vehicles, for example, with Tesla’s website showing the electric truck powering a Model Y via a socket in its bed.

But beyond that, The Verge notes that you can power much more than just another car. Assuming your Cybertruck is powered up you can use it to provide electricity to your entire home should the need arise. That effectively turns the Cybertruck into a portable generator which could also make it the perfect truck for taking on camping trips and more.

Tesla’s Cybertruck can output as much as 11.5kW which is more than competing electric trucks, while the management of the bidirectional charging is done via an updated Tesla phone app. Owners will be able to monitor the charging process and adjust settings while also keeping tabs on energy usage and more, all in real time.

However, it’s important to remember that those looking to take advantage of the home-powering Powershare technology will need to also have a Tesla Powerwall installed at home as well as a Wall Connector for the best experience.
