The newly released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 features new baseband for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes these mentioned phones locked on this new firmware. The guy who found the exploit used in Ultrasn0w 0.93 has confirmed that this new baseband patches the exploit and therefore it is highly recommended to stay away from this firmware for now if you rely on an carrier unlock.
The newly released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 is jailbreakable using the existing version 0.9.5b5 of Redsn0w. However this Redsn0w jailbreak is supported on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only. Here is the update on this from the iPhone Dev-Team blog.
We all know why Geohot left the whole jailbreak scene. He has already deleted his Twitter account, and his blog is set to invite-only viewing only. However before deleting his Twitter account, Geohot said to follow his friend Mike Cohen for all the future updates on jailbreak. He also said that “perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye”. And now it looks like he is probably going to make a comeback (perhaps for the last time?) with a new tool to jailbreak all iOS devices once and for all. This is what his friend mikecohenn wrote today:
The iPhone hacker behind sn0wbreeze, f0recast and BlackBreeze today has announced Sn0wbreeze V2.0 which promises to jailbreak iOS 3.1.x, 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.1 Beta. Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will support: iPhone 3GS (old bootrom pwned on iOS 4.x, and new bootrom pwned on 3.1.2 or with 3.1.2 SHSH blobs), iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (non-MC model, and already jailbroken on iOS 4.x), and iPod touch 3G and 2G (MC model) pwned on 3.1.2 or with 3.1.2 SHSH blobs. While there is no ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) on the release yet, but there is no reason why it shouldn’t be soon.
Sn0wbreeze 1.8 has been released. This is by the same developer who is behind other popular iPhone jailbreak tools such as sn0wbreeze 1.6 and 1.7 for iOS 4, sn0wbreeze for iPhone 3.1.3, f0recast and BlackBreeze. Just like the PwnageTool for Mac, Sn0wbreeze 1.8 can jailbreak iPhone 3GS (old bootrom, and already pwned on iOS 4.x), iPod touch 2G (non MC model) and iPod touch 3G on iOS 4.1 Beta. iPhone 3G users will have to jailbreak using Redsn0w, guide for which is posted here.
The iPhone hacker behind sn0wbreeze, f0recast and BlackBreeze today has just announced Sn0wbreeze V1.8 for iOS 4.1 Beta which promises to jailbreak iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G on the newly released iOS 4.1 Beta. While there is no ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) on the release yet, but there is no reason why it shouldn’t be soon.
Yes you read that right ! The newly released iOS 4.1 is jailbreakable using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5. All you need is the latest iOS 4.1 firmware for iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G (non-MC Models) and you can jailbreak it using Redsn0w on Windows and Mac. Again, this is strictly for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC models) only. If your iPhone 3G relies on an unlock, you MUST STAY AWAY from iOS 4.1 for now.
Apple has just released iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd and 3rd gen. If you currently rely on a jailbreak, it is highly recommended that you avoid updating to iOS 4.1 until any further notice. I am currently testing iOS 4.1 and will report back as soon as I have more on it. Stay tuned !!
According to a latest tweet by a member of iPhone Dev Team, it looks like an all device jailbreak like Spirit and Blackra1n is ready, incl. for devices like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G. This is going to be yet another userland jailbreak which we talked about earlier and is coming from none other than comex – the developer behind Spirit jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod touch.
