Founder of Digg Kevin Rose has jumped on to the rumor mill surrounding the next-gen Apple TV (dubbed as iTV). He thinks that this upcoming TV set-top box by Apple will run on top of iOS, which means that it will bring the existing 250,000+ apps from iTunes App Store on the big-screen in your living room. He also thinks that Apple will launch this device as soon as next month and that it “will change everything”.
In a surprising move, instead of taking on Nintendo DS line of portable gaming, Sony takes a shot at Apple and its iPhone / iOS gaming system by calling it “that isn't built for big boy games, that is built for texting your grandma and calling your girl”. Seriously Sony? you are comparing a full-fledged portable gaming console to a multi-functional smartphone? Something is surely not right at Sony, they are probably thinking that they have missed their opportunity at cell phone gaming market with a possible PlayStation Phone. And so now they want us to believe that paying for old PSP collection at $10 is better than paying for App Store games on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
iOS 3.2.2 for iPad WiFi and iPad 3G is out! This update fixes the vulnerability in iOS which allows hackers to execute malicious code via PDF exploit in Safari. JailbreakMe used the same exploit to jailbreak all iPhones, iPod touches and iPads. Since this new update patches the exploit used by JailbreakMe, you wont be able to jailbreak your iPad until a new jailbreak tool is available.
Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for all iPhones, iPod touches, and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad to patch the PDF exploit which was used by JailbreakMe to jailbreak all iOS devices on iOS 4.0.1. If you want to keep your jailbreak and unlock, you better not update to this latest firmware now or you will be out of luck for long. Incase you have decided not to update, make sure you use PDF Loading Warner app which will make your web browsing safe. Of course if you care about security of your iPhone, then you can go ahead and update to the latest firmware from iTunes.
Apple has just released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 for all iPhones and iPod touches. This beta build, like all the previous betas is meant for developers only. Only members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise Program can access these bits of by signing into Apple Developer Connection.
Earlier this week, Microsoft started sending out developer-only test units built by Samsung and LG to developers to help them test the performance of their upcoming apps on actual handsets rather than emulators. Folks at NewsGeek site has put this test phone which is running Technical Preview version of Windows Phone 7 against iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 for a head-to-head web browser speed comparison. Unfortunately, since the test was conducted on a (different?) 3G network instead of WiFi (see the Disclaimer below), In all fairness, it will be unfair to pick one winner between Mobile Safari and Mobile IE.
There is a new video going around in the wild which shows iPhone 3GS (with new bootrom) on iOS 4 jaibroken using an upcoming version of Sn0wbreeze. This video has been confirmed by iH8sn0w - the developer behind popular iPhone jailbreak tools such as sn0wbreeze for iPhone 3.1.3 / 4.0, f0recast and BlackBreeze as legit.
Apple today in an open letter has officially acknowledged the iPhone 4 reception problem, which is confirmed as a software issue which will be fixed via software update coming in the next few weeks. The problem as it turned out was related to the “totally wrong” formula which was used to calculate the signal strength.
Yes! I have got iMovie, which is an iPhone 4 exclusive app running almost perfectly on my iPhone 3GS. I did this video just to show that iPhone 3GS is fast, and capable enough to run iMovie. It is just that Apple wants us all to purchase the new iPhone 4 by saying that iPhone 3GS’ hardware is not good enough for this stuff.
Now that iPhone 4 has been launched in US, and in some European countries, with lots more to follow in July and August. What everyone is obviously waiting for is to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 4. Since iPhone 4 comes unlocked in almost all countries except for United States, what everyone really wants is a jailbreak, which requires a new exploit as Apple has already patched all the holes in the most recent firmware release, including the one used by Spirit.
