The popular media center client for Mac OS X and iOS devices has been successfully ported to the new Apple TV 2G ! So for those of you who have a Plex server running in your home, you can now “technically” stream media from Plex server on to your jailbroken 2nd-generation Apple TV.
The iPhone Dev Team has just released PwnageTool 4.1.1. This is more of a bug fix release which fixes issues for Mac OS X 10.5.x Leopard users.
The all new PwnageTool 4.1 brings support for the 2nd-generation Apple TV. You can use it to cook custom firmware for Apple TV 2G which in future will allow you to install third party apps from Cydia.
We all saw this coming ! The limera1n exploit based GreenPois0n tool has finally jailbroken the 2nd-generation Apple TV. Members of Chronic Dev Team posted an image as a proof, showing a custom loader with a background on the Apple TV, running iOS 4.1.
While we previously thought that Geohot’s startling return to jailbreaking with Limera1n wouldn’t make jailbreaking Apple TV possible, it turns out that it is actually possible and you can do it right now!!
After showing off the demo of SHAtter exploit in action on an iPod touch 4G, the iPhone Dev-Team has now managed to jailbreak the newly released 2nd-gen Apple TV, running iOS 4.1 using SHAtter exploit loaded on PwnageTool. For those of you who don’t know, SHAtter is a low-level bootrom exploit which Apple will not be able to patch with a new firmware. Instead, they will have to introduce a revised hardware for all the current iOS devices to close the loophole. What this means is that once this jailbreak is out, all current iOS based devices will be pwned for life!
After showing off the first demo of SHAtter exploit in action, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed today that this new exploit which was found by pod2g, a former team member of the Chronic Dev-Team will also work on the new Apple TV 2010. Since Apple TV also runs on iOS 4.1 (official download link), it will be interesting to see what kind of “magical” stuff can jailbreaking community achieve here.
When Apple announced their movie, TV show and music streaming box - The Apple TV - we were told that it was not iOS-based. But as it turns out today, the new 2010 version of Apple TV is, in fact, based on iOS. There is just no Springboard applications to launch your apps.
We are only a few days away now from Apple’s Special Media Event which is scheduled to be held on September 1, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Theater in San Francisco. While the event more looks like being iPod-centric, rumor has it that Apple is very likely to introduce new Apple TV (dubbed as iTV) which will be based on iOS like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
