Samsung To Launch 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus In Coming Weeks

It looks like Samsung is hard at work on a new handset dubbed ‘Galaxy S6 Plus,’ internally known by the codename Project Zero 2. The original Galaxy S6 smartphone was given the Project Zero moniker amongst Samsung employees, and it looks like this mysterious device could essentially be a larger version of the popular Galaxy S6 Edge that launched alongside the Galaxy S6.

Rumours have been circulating for quite some time regarding Samsung actively working on a project known internally as Project Zen. However, this latest reveal seems to suggest that the South Korean giant has shifted focus on the codenames and renamed the build to Project Zero 2, which is a reference to the codename given to the original Galaxy S6 flagship. The existence of this internal project seems to suggest that the early speculation was indeed true although it looks like certain parts of the specifications have been misinterpreted.

The purported device is said to come equipped with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display that features the same “wraparound” aesthetics as the existing Galaxy S6 Edge. The 32GB of internal storage will be accompanied by a hex-core Snapdragon 808 processor. Project Zero 2 will also feature a 15-megapixel rear camera module with a forward-facing 5-megapixel offering for those selfie loving individuals.

Although the speculated device measures in at the same size as the soon-to-be-announced Galaxy Note 5, the two devices shouldn’t be confused against one another. The Note 5 is an entirely separate device that, unlike the rumored Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, will ship with the S-Pen and will not have the curved display at both edges. The original report suggests that Samsung is preparing itself internally to officially announce the device under the Galaxy S6 Plus moniker in the coming weeks. For those who are still keen on the future of the Galaxy Note 5, the same report suggests that “Project Noble” is still on track for an IFA launch with its Super AMOLED flat display and octa-core Exynos 7422 processor.
