Ring Announces Wire-Free Outdoor Stick Up Cam, Here Are The Details

It seems that CES 2016 is the place to be for connected devices intended for the emerging smart home scene. The intelligent goodies keep on coming thick and fast, with doorbell maker Ring throwing its hat into the ring with the Ring Stick Up Cam, an intelligent outdoor security cam for the home that can be used in conjunction with Ring Video Doorbell. Those who love the Ring Video Doorbell now have an extra product that they can add to their security arsenal in their workplace or home to gain that 24/7 peace of mind.

One of the biggest marketing points that Ring has in the bag with the Stick Up Cam is that it comes as an entirely self-installing product. Connected outdoor products are great, but unless you have the technical and electrical expertise required they usually come attached with an installation cost from a qualified professional.

Stick Up Cam doesn’t require that level of integration with installation being as easy as mounting an adjustable mount bracket to any surface. The Stick Up Cam can then be positioned as desired within that bracket.

The contraption is weather-resistant and wire-free thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi radio that allows seamless streaming of video to a connected smartphone or tablet. There’s also an integrated 5,200 mAh lithium-ion battery pack which removes the need for any power calling to the hardware. Ring is marketing the battery as one offering anywhere between six and twelve months of uptime before it actually needs to be swapped out for a new one, although that estimation depends entirely on usage.

This security camera also offers some additional cool features. The device comes with motion sensing technology that can be configured from within the same dedicated smartphone app which is also used for the Ring Video Doorbell. Different motion zones can be created with each having varying sensitivity levels.

Two-way audio is also offered to go with the streaming video so owners can talk directly to someone at the door or on their property. There’s also a fantastic night vision mode which means visibility will still be of the highest level even in dark lighting conditions. Owners of the Stick Up Cam will also have the option of capturing and uploading video clips directly to the cloud for storage.

Ring Stick Up Cam offers an 80-degree field-of-view and can capture videos at 720p.

Interested parties are able to pre-order the Ring Stick Up Cam right now for $199.00. Shipping starts in about 2 to 3 weeks time. There’s also the added option of adding cloud storage for an additional $3.00 per month, or $30.00 for the year.
