Out Now: First Beta Of watchOS 2.2.2, OS X 10.11.6 Beta 2, tvOS 9.2.2 Beta 2

In addition to releasing iOS 9.3.3 beta 2, Apple has also seeded the first beta of watchOS 2.2.2, called for some reason as beta 2, for Apple Watch, as well as beta 2 of OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 for Macs and tvOS 9.2.2 beta 2 for the Apple TV 4. As we approach this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2016), the Cupertino-based company is clearly looking to blow the cobwebs off of a number of its most commonly used platforms prior to any major announces that take place during this year’s event.

watchOS 2.2.2 Beta 2

Unfortunately for developer and testers who like to tinker and get to grips with everything that’s new and shiny, this particular update is unlikely to include real forward-facing changes for people to sink their teeth into. As is usually the case with this type of update, and especially considering we’re expecting watchOS 3.0 to be unveiled at WWDC 2016, the first beta of watchOS 2.2.2 (which Apple is referring to as beta 2) contains the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements that we are used to seeing.

Those interested in testing this firmware with the necessary privileges can download and install the software via the Apple Watch iPhone app by heading to General > Software Update. Make sure you have developer profile for watchOS installed though from Apple Developer Program portal in order to receive the OTA update.

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta 2

If you already have OS X 10.11.6 beta 1 installed on your Mac, then you can expect beta 2 to be filtering down through the Mac App Store as we speak. Like the initial seed of watchOS 2.2.2, Apple hasn’t integrated any real consumer-facing changes into this latest version of El Capitan. Instead, it looks to be an update which continues to focus on improving the performance of the software ahead of a major reveal at this year’s WWDC.

The latest pre-release version of OS X can be downloaded through the Apple Developer portal, or updated through the Mac App Store if a pre-release version is already running on the machine.

tvOS 9.2.2 Beta 2

tvOS may be Apple’s youngest platform, but it is definitely one of the most interesting and the one to watch in terms of progression. As it’s new, there is literally so much that Apple can do going forward, or at least that’s what consumers expect. This second beta is nothing more than a minor point update that focuses on improving the overall tvOS experience for those fortunate enough to be running a fourth-generation Apple TV. As always, we will keep you updated if any new features or functionality becomes known.
