New In iOS 27: Passwords App Can Automatically Change Weak And Compromised Credentials

With the upcoming iOS 27 update, Apple’s Passwords app will be able to automatically change passwords that have been compromised or are too weak to be effective.

While Apple’s Passwords has always shown users whether their passwords are secure or compromised, it has only been able to recommend that those passwords be changed. With iOS 27, Passwords will use agentic AI to automatically update the password to something more suitable.

According to a MacRumors report, Apple Intelligence and Safari will navigate the specific website, sign in, and then change the password to a new, secure one without the user needing to interact with the session at all.

A Live Activity will be displayed during the whole process, so users know when it is complete.

The feature builds on Passwords’ existing ability to flag weak or compromised credentials. While the app has long been able to alert users to security issues, acting on those alerts required manually visiting each site and changing passwords individually. The new capability removes that friction by automating the process end-to-end in the background.

The iOS 27 update was announced during the WWDC 2026 opening keynote on June 8, with a beta immediately made available to developers. A public beta is expected to be made available to the public in July, but the final, public release isn’t expected to be available until this fall.
