Jailbreaking ‘Dream Team’ Makes Significant Progress On Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4S And iPad 2

After taking his research and development to a certain level, Pod2g collaborated with members of both the Chronic and iPhone Dev Teams to get across the finishing line with the recently released iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for older generation devices. We had already seen the implementation of his work into an updated version of Redsn0w, and also through the Corona utility on Cydia which can be used on devices which were already tethered on iOS 5.

Unfortunately for owners of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, the teams involved were unable to release an untethered, iOS 5 jailbreak for those devices due to not having the relevant exploits to inject the untethering files. The exploit used to jailbreak the developers test devices requires the use of an official developer account and therefore cannot be released publicly to the masses. The community still waits patiently with all eyes focused on the official blogs and Twitter accounts of those involved, with tweets coming this afternoon from both Pod2g and iPhone Dev Team leader, MuscleNerd.

It appears that the 'Dream Team' of jailbreaking also has a famous sidekick, with MuscleNerd tweeting that the founder of Cydia, Jay Freeman (a.k.a. Saurik) has been lending a helping hand with the A5 version of Pod2g's untethered jailbreak. Due to his experience in this community, he did also stress that no estimated time of arrival exists, but things are moving forward.

A quick retort from Pod2g was eager to also pay thanks and homage to legendary hacker PlanetBeing who has been providing his magic touch to try and alleviate sandboxing issues which the teams have been experiencing. It seems that his coding skills, research and prior knowledge may help to move the A5 jailbreak forward at a quicker pace than would be possible without his participation.

A few days ago we brought you the news that iOS security researcher Pod2g had enlisted the help and support of some of the most influential and prominent developers and hackers in the jailbreaking community to try and make tangible progress in the pursuit of an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak on A5 devices.
