iPhoto For iPad And iPhone Banks Apple $5 Million, Downloaded Over A Million Times In Just 10 Days

The app, which has been an integral part of OS X for some years, was finally announced for iOS at the Yerba Buena on March 7th. Following in the footsteps of the iWork suite - which has enjoyed much success on the mobile platform - consumers have been prompt in showing their affinity to iPhoto.

The introduction of the Retina display and 5 megapixel iSight camera rendered the announcement of iPhoto for iOS almost a no-brainer. Up until the release of the much-improved device, the iPad's camera and resolution wasn't sufficient enough for the Cupertino-based outfit to begin showcasing its own snap-editing app. Sure, the iPhone's camera and LCD have been reaching the heights for quite a while, but one could argue that the 3.5 inch screen just doesn't do these apps as much justice as the larger, 9.7 inch display of its larger cousin.

Today marks the one-millionth sale of the $4.99 app, although not everybody has been convinced as to whether or not it's worth the money.

Still, with sales seemingly ticking over quite nicely, it's no surprise Sir Jony Ive was beaming about it:

"The iPhoto app we created for the new iPad completely consumes you and you forget you are using an iPad."

Sounds like the archetypal dose of Cupertino conceitedness, since I, for one, can vouch that it's far from exceptional. Nevertheless, you guys may have different views - which we'd love to hear - and if you haven't yet got the app, you can grab it from the link provided below.

There’s been much talk of late regarding Apple’s expansive bank balance. As opposed to making a large acquisition like Google or Microsoft with its $100 billion kitty, the fruit company decided a share repurchase program would be a forward-thinking way to utilize some of that eye-watering wealth.

With such huge numbers being thrown about as if they were normal amounts of money, the mere fact that iPhoto for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has already amassed five million bucks in ten short days of life which piles up to a whooping 1 million downloads, seems a tad underwhelming.
