Battery Life Of iPhone SE Outperforms iPhone 6s By Over Two Hours, Galaxy S7 By Three

A series of tests performed by The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Apple’s new iPhone SE packs some impressive battery life improvements. Initial tests have shown that Apple’s $399 iPhone model outlasts the existing flagship iPhone 6s by more than two hours. Those improvements are impressive enough, but the tests also shows that the new iPhone “Special Edition” is capable of outlasting Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, by nearly three hours. Those numbers alone are enough to make the iPhone SE stand out above the rest for the purely battery conscious individuals.

Like a lot of companies that produce and sell smartphones, Apple has a history of making smartphones that transcend the previous model in terms of features and functionality, but those features often come at the detriment of battery life. It’s extremely rare for a manufacturer to produce a new piece of hardware that carries same power and costs significantly less while also offering significant battery improvements over existing flagship model. But that is what has exactly happened in iPhone SE’s case.

Unlike many other recent Apple products, the iPhone SE’s is a significant improvement over its predecessors’. In my lab stress test, which cycles through websites with uniform screen brightness, the SE lasted 10 hours—more than two hours longer than both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 5s, and nearly three hours longer than the Galaxy S7.

Those familiar with Apple’s smartphone range will instantly pick up on the fact that the iPhone SE is a 4-inch device whereas the iPhone 6s comes with a 4.7-inch display that needs to draw on more battery reserves to power it. While that is true to some extent, the numbers we’re talking about here comes from a lab stress test and they indicate that Apple has made impressive enough improvements to make the iPhone SE appealing to customers looking for a smartphone that offers impressive features, a beautiful aesthetic, a battery life that outperforms some of the most popular devices on the market, while still costing under $400.

In case you don’t already know, the $399 4-inch iPhone SE features 2GB RAM, A9/M9 processors, 12MP camera with 4K video recording and has a battery capacity of 1642mAh. Compare this to $650 for 4.7-inch iPhone 6s which also features 2GB RAM, A9/M9 processors, 12MP camera with 4K video recording and has battery capacity of 1715mAh. The $700 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 features 4GB RAM, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, 12MP camera with 4K video recording and has battery capacity of 3000mAh. According to these lab tests, iPhone SE’s battery lasts two hours more than iPhone 6s and nearly 3 hours more than Galaxy S7. We’ll leave it you to be the final judge.
