Apple has released the first macOS 27 Golden Gate beta. If you’re wondering which Macs are compatible with macOS 27, read on.
The macOS 27 update was announced during the WWDC 2026 opening keynote alongside software updates for the rest of Apple’s platforms, including the iPhone. But if it’s macOS that you’re interested in, there are some things to note.

The first is that this macOS 27 update is the first to drop support for Apple’s Intel-powered Macs entirely. That means that the following Macs will be stuck on macOS 26 Tahoe, although there will be security updates for the next three years:
- 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
- Mac Pro (2019)
- 27-inch iMac (2020)
As for which Macs will be supported, all of the M-series Macs are good to go. That means that if you have a Mac with an M1 or newer, you can install macOS 27 onto it. We also expect that to remain the case for at least the next few big macOS updates, too.
Supported Macs for macOS Golden Gate:
- MacBook Neo (2026)
- MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- iMac with Apple silicon (2021 and later)
- Mac mini with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- Mac Pro with Apple silicon (2023)
Apple hasn’t given an exact release date for the new macOS 27 update, but it’s expected to debut in September or October, likely around the time that the rest of Apple’s big fall software updates are made available to the public.
